Dr. Aamir Nawaz
LLB (Hons), LLM, PhD, Solicitor & Managing Director
[Qualified 2006]

Dr Aamir Nawaz is the Senior Partner of Trent Law Solicitors and leads both the firm's property practice and its corporate practice from the Nottingham head office. Admitted as a solicitor in 2011, he has practised property and commercial law throughout his career, and he supervises the firm's conveyancing and corporate work personally.
His residential property practice covers the full range, from a first purchase to matters that other firms decline. He acts on freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, new build acquisitions and their deadlines, auction transactions and their compressed timetables, transfers of equity, remortgages and bridging finance, and buy to let and portfolio work. He is regularly instructed where a title is defective or unregistered, where a lease requires extension or variation, where rights of way, restrictive covenants or boundary questions are in issue, where indemnity policies are needed, and where a transaction has stalled in another firm's hands and needs rescuing.
On the commercial side he advises investors, developers, landlords and business owners on the acquisition and disposal of commercial premises of every kind, from a single retail unit to industrial sites and mixed investment portfolios. His work includes site assembly and development acquisitions, option agreements and conditional contracts, refinancing and secured lending, and the full range of landlord and tenant documentation: the grant of new leases, assignments, underleases and surrenders, agreements for lease, licences to assign and to alter, and rent deposit deeds. He advises on security of tenure under the Landlord and Tenant Act 1954, on the stamp duty and value added tax consequences of a commercial transaction, and on the due diligence that determines whether a property will actually support the use a client intends.
Dr Nawaz also leads the firm's corporate practice, acting for owner managers, founders, family companies, professional practices and investors on the sale and purchase of businesses. He handles share sales and purchases, whether of an entire issued share capital or a controlling or minority stake, sales of a business and its assets as a going concern, management buyouts and buy ins, partial disposals, and the reorganisations that prepare a company for sale. The greater part of that caseload is seller side, and the transactions he handles run from five figures to seven, with most falling in the six figure range.
His drafting covers the whole suite of transaction documents: heads of terms, confidentiality agreements, share and asset purchase agreements, the warranties and indemnities within them, tax covenants, disclosure letters and their supporting bundles, shareholder agreements, restrictive covenants, guarantees and completion statements. Two things distinguish the practice. Where consideration is deferred, he secures it rather than hoping for it, backing instalments with personal or corporate guarantees and building interest, acceleration and clear enforcement routes into the agreement, so that a price on paper becomes money in the bank. And where warranties are given, he controls the client's exposure through disclosure prepared with the same care as the agreement itself, capping claims in amount and in time rather than leaving a seller exposed for years after completion. Because the firm's property, employment and commercial teams sit under one roof, the lease on the premises, the transfer of staff under TUPE and the contracts that come with a business are dealt with together rather than farmed out.
He holds a doctorate in law alongside an LLB with honours and an LLM, and he is qualified in three jurisdictions: as a solicitor of England and Wales, as a solicitor of the Republic of Ireland, and as a barrister of England and Wales. He is also a Notary Public and a member of the Notaries Society. Within the firm he serves as Compliance Officer for Legal Practice, Compliance Officer for Finance and Administration, and Training Principal, and he is responsible for the standards to which every file is conducted.
